Need a plumber? Angie’s List reviews are now free

Angie's List is making its basic business review service available for free.

Starting Wednesday, AngiesList.com, a website that hosts information and ratings of home repair contractors and other service providers, will make its repository of more than 10 million verified reviews available for free. Currently, more than 3 million members use the site.

Meanwhile, the service has created three new tiers of membership, including the free service, in a bid to expand its ranks to younger home buyers.

"We've been evaluating changes in consumer demand, especially for millennials as they become homeowners," said Angie Hicks, founder of the website.

"They're going to be less likely to pay for information, but more likely to pay for services and benefits on the way," she said.

Three tiers of service

Now, the green membership gives users free access to companies in more than 700 service categories along with verified reviews and ratings. These subscribers will also receive Angie's List digital magazine.

In the past, these services a cost an annual $9.99.

Angie's List has also created two other tiers of paid membership, silver and gold, which cost $24.99 and $99.99 each year, respectively. Those subscribers will have access to enhanced customer service, as well as pricing and quality guarantees.
