The Super Bowl is already scoring big bucks for hotels in the vicinity of New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, where the big game will be played, according to recent hotel data.
Based on bookings so far, "rates are 44 percent more expensive [for this] Super Bowl weekend than the weekend before," said Jeanenne Tornatore, senior editor at travel booking site Orbitz.com.
Fans attending the game should look for hotels in Jersey City, where average rates are about $387 a night and near Newark Airport, where they are about $335 a night. Manhattan rates average about $418 a night, according to Orbitz booking data, Tornatore said.
"Already, around the stadium and the near vicinity, hotels are booked to capacity. So … you want to look as early as possible, since once we know the teams, everything books up very quickly," she said.
