Google is poised to do for cars what it did for mobile devices, introducing its popular Android operating system to automobiles, Re/code reported on Monday.
According to the report, the search giant launched the Open Automotive Alliance, a group formed to push Android to cars as early as this year. Members of the club will include chipmaker Nvidia and marquee automakers such as Audi, General Motors, Honda and Hyundai.
The writing may already be on the wall, the report noted. Overnight, Nvidia announced a new chip designed for cars, and heralded a new push to create a digital dashboard.
